PFT Tank concrete repair

Problem

The concrete to the top of the PFT tank was under attack from the Hydrogen Sulphide gas which has caused the concrete to spall badly, revealing the rebar in places. The seal between the roof and the wall had also failed and was causing damage to the concrete to the outside of the tank.

These pictures show the condition of the concrete and seal at the top of the PFT Tank.

Solution - Internal Repair

  • The area to be repaired was grit blasted
  • A new seal was injected between wall and roof
  • The worst affected areas were rebuilt using a Belzona concrete repair product which is resistant to the hydrogen sulphide attack
  • All prepared areas were then spray coated with Belzona 5811 to prevent any further damage.

Solution - External Repair

  • Identify the problem areas.
  • Apply the Belzona concrete repair system to reinstate the thickness of walls to correct level.

Summary

  • This work was all completed on schedule and on budget.
  • The integrity of the tank has been reinstated and has greatly increased the useful asset life.
